Mid and East Antrim Sinn Féin councillor Patrice Hardy has welcomed the decision by the Minister of Justice to keep open Ballymena Courthouse.
The decision was announced today in the Assembly by the Minister for Justice.
Cllr. Hardy said
“I welcome this announcement. The Council and local elected representatives have lobbied hard to keep the Court House open and I am delighted that the Minister has listened to the local arguments. Any closure of this courthouse would have had an adverse impact on local solicitor firms and others who work within the legal profession, local employment and the public services provided. It is great to see these services remain for the local community in a rural area. This avoids people having to travel long distances to avail of the services of the Court House.
“The Minister has now said she will engage on how the courthouse may be used to allow its sustainability in the future. I and Sinn Féin will engage fully in this process. “ENDS
