Responding to comments today made by Arlene Foster, Sinn Féin’s Philip McGuigan said;
“The attitude of the DUP towards the Irish Language is hugely disappointing and at times very offensive. There is absolutely no reason why the language should not be cherished and embraced by all, regardless of political persuasion. The Irish language is inoffensive.
“My children were educated through the medium of Irish as are lots of children in this Constituency. This provides them with an excellent educational opportunity. Political Leaders should set aside their prejudices and allow themselves to see the opportunities – educational, culturally and economically- that the Irish language can give us all.
“I find it disappointing that Arlene Foster tries to deflect the DUP £480 million scandal of RHI by using the Irish language and would hope that all sensible people see through this.”
