Speaking after a meeting of the Causeway Coast and Glens Council Environment Services Committee, Sinn Féin Councillor Kieran Mulholland said:

“Dog fouling is one of the most frequently raised issues from constituents right across the Borough. I’ve called on the Council’s Environmental Services Committee to put more resources into combatting the issue so that it isn’t just enforcement officers visiting the areas 9 to 5 during the day.

“Rural areas such as Loughgiel and Armoy are suffering from this blight. The minority of dog owners who do not clean up after their animals are spoiling beautiful walking areas for everyone and creating unsafe areas for children. It is my opinion that this needs to be tackled, as I previously stated for littering and fly tipping, by using CCTV or other similar deterrents.

“I encourage everyone to report incidents using the dedicated email address dogfouling@causewaycoastandglens.gov.uk and call on the Council to redirect more resource to tackle the most commonly blighted areas through video footage and other deterrents.”
