Sinn Féin North Antrim MLA Philip McGuigan has said road safety is being put at risk unless the Department reinstates previous years policy of at least 2 cuts for road side grass verges.
The Sinn Féin MLA said:
“The department has reduced grass cutting along roads side verges to one cut per year. In some cases that cut took place in early May. Even though we are not yet in August some of this grass is over two feet high in places. Many rural road users across North Antrim are experiencing difficulty in seeing oncoming traffic at many road ends because of the length of the grass.
“I am aware that the local Transport NI offices in Ballymena and Ballymoney are being inundated with calls about this. The reality is that unless the Department reverse its current position and implements at least two cuts then the visibility and safety of road users are being put at risk.
I have written to the Permanent Secretary for The Department for Infrastructure asking for this to happen”
